Refai hamo biography

Refaai Hamo nearly forgot what it feels like to be alive after experiencing so much grief and terror.

A missile filled with 116 small bombs, needles and shrapnel ripped through his family's Syrian compound two years ago and his wife and daughter, who were on the top floor of the compound when a second missile landed, were killed in what seemed an instant.

In total, 16 people were killed.

Seven were his family members.

Hamo, faced with an uncertain future after the attack, fled Syria with his remaining children and said he felt like a piece of him died that day along with his wife and young, bright daughter.

But two years later, Hamo and his four surviving children have a second chance at life.

And for Hamo it's a chance for him to make a difference in the world.

A chance for him to feel alive again.
